VOCAL INSTRUCTORS

JOYCE ANDREWS:

Joyce Andrews has enjoyed a prominent career in music as both teacher and performer. A Professor Emerita from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, she received the university’s highest Distinguished Teaching Award for her successes. Her students have excelled in competitions, been accepted into prestigious music schools, and performed in professional venues. She has taught all areas of the art of singing. Andrews has taught privately as well, focusing on teenage through adult ages. She began her career in New York City with the New York City Opera and has performed with the New Jersey Symphony, Madison Opera, Chautauqua Opera, and Hawaii Opera, among others and has recorded a solo CD. Andrews holds a B.M. degree in Music Education from MacMurray College, and an M.M. degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Hawaii. She enjoys the relationship that develops between singer and teacher in the voice studio as it fosters trust, exploration, and growth.

MONICA BOLLENBAUGH:

Monica was exposed to music at a young age and has been active ever since. She began taking piano lessons at age eight and found her singing voice before kindergarten. Her involvement in school choirs, musicals and solo/ensemble festivals elevated her interest in further studies. In 2012 Monica earned a BA degree in Music Education from Grand View University. Along with teaching private lessons, her experience includes organizing and leading music workshops for at-risk youth, directing choral works, composing music and lyrics, and performing professionally around Des Moines. "It is a privilege to help students turn their goals into reality." Students will learn to read music, perform expressively, and build a repertoire in an encouraging environment. Monica enjoys working with beginning students ages four to young adult.

 
DOROTHY HECHT:

Dorothy studied music at Simpson College, and has studied private piano and organ for over 14 years. She currently plays and sings with the local band Dorothy Hecht and the Rubber Tramps. Dorothy loves to teach children and adults all styles of music, from classical to rock.



 
CONSTANCE JONES:

Constance comes from a musical family and developed a passion for music at a young age. She has been singing since she could speak and playing piano for over 13 years. Her accomplishments began early by being accepted into Opus Honor Choir in elementary school as well as Iowa All State in high school. She then studied at Grand View University for music education. She has remained active in music by singing at her church, participating in choirs at both Grand View and Drake, and performing professionally for weddings and other events around the Des Moines area. Constance loves to keep things fun and entertaining to keep students motivated while learning important music fundamentals at the same time. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 adorable children, singing karaoke, shopping, and many other fun activities! She loves teaching students of all ages.

 
VANESSA MALY:

Vanessa has been teaching students of all ages since 2004. She holds a Vocal Performance degree from Northwest Missouri State University, and has formerly been the Choral Director at Adair-Casey Schools. Vanessa focuses greatly on technique, theory and performance while striving to keep the lessons enjoyable. She currently plays keyboard/vocals with the local cover band CTRL C.

 
REBEKAH NEFF:

Rebekah Neff has a degree in Professional Music Performance with an emphasis on pop vocal performance and classical piano, from the Phil Mattson School for Music Vocations. She has been teaching privately for 16 years. During that time she has taught voice and piano both classical and jazz, jazz arranging for voice and piano, song writing and music theory. She has directed church choirs, hosted recitals, performed at various churches and private events. She currently runs the Youth Music Ministry at her church, and is also on staff for private lessons for the music team of her church. She has a love for music and people of all ages. Her desire is to show students that music is a gift not only for the person learning but also for the listener, therefore music is an opportunity to give back to those around us. Her goal is to help students become confident through the principals of integrity and discipline.

MINDY SLETTEN:

Mindy has a passion for passing music on to her students. She received her B.A. in Music on Piano from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD in 2008. She started teaching piano in 2005 and has been at Rieman Music since 2009. She loves teaching all levels of piano students and leading them down the path that best suits their musical ambitions. She has studied piano for most of her life, enjoys playing her trumpet, and sang in the Augustana Choir while in college. She now spends her time accompanying the Johnston Middle School choirs and show choir during the school year. She sings and plays keyboard and trumpet in The Mill Street Band with her husband Nathan and a few friends. Mindy is also the proud mommy of two little girls! She is excited to share her love of music with piano students at Rieman Music.

DALLAS TERRILL:

Dallas graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Vocal Music and a minor in Entrepreneurial Studies. She was a 4-year member of the nationally recognized Cantamus Women’s Choir at ISU while taking voice lessons with Mary Creswell and Simon Estes. In addition to singing, Dallas has been playing piano, guitar, and many other instruments for a number of years. She has a passion for spreading the joy of music and the importance of musical education with her students. Along with the knowledge of a specific instrument, students will learn technique, theory, and musicality, as this will help to mold them into well-rounded musicians.
